It’s commonly believed that people who are psychic have some sort of “extra” sense. That they have something that “normal” people don’t.
That’s a myth.
It used to be believed that we had only 5 senses, and a psychic gift was a 6th sense. Now scientists believe that we have anywhere from 14 – 22 senses. I suspect that they will discover others with time.
It has been my experience, as a professional intuitive and as a profession intuition mastery coach, that these perfectly ordinary senses can pick up much more than what we tend give them credit for.
Why It’s Actually About Skill
I don’t have a special sense that allows me to sense things others are unaware of. Instead, I have the skill to examine my other perfectly normal senses and decode them into useful and actionable information for the betterment of my life and the lives of the people I help.
After working people in 11 countries and helping them use their intuitions, I’ve found that all of the people I’ve worked with can do the same thing I do.
Not all have a desire to put in the number of hours and the amount of study required to be a professional, but they certainly have the basic senses required.
Here’s the real deal: it takes skill and practice to know
- When you’re getting intuitive information
- How to properly interpret the intuitive information
- How to take action on the information
- How to get the information on command
When you were first seeing, you saw automatically, but it took time for your body to learn how to focus, and for you to be able to recognize certain shapes as letters and to learn the difference between the colors.
The difference with your intuition is that many people don’t grow up with someone teaching them the intuition ABCs. Your parents probably didn’t sit you down and say, “Ok, when you look at the root chakra of your sister, what do you see? It’s a small dot with a nimbus of red around it? Ok, that means that your sister is being materially supported by someone else. Which is true, because your dad and I are supporting you and your sister until you’re old enough to be independent.”
That’s a skill most of us have to learn in adulthood.

Information Filters Differently for Everyone
Having information coming through your body is what intuition is all about, and that means that it’s going to look different for each person, because each person has a different body and that body responds to information differently.
The information may come through as song lyrics for some people, while others who are tuned in to the exact same thing may get an image or a feeling.
The different ways that information comes through are called Intuitive Modalities.
As if that’s not confusing enough, even when you have the exact same modality as someone else, you still have your own unique associations with the images, sounds and sensations you receive.
In one instance, a student of mine got a blank feeling when the answer was “yes.” When I get that exact same sensation, it means “no.”
The information that comes through is highly personal, and that’s why this appears to be such an elusive skill. We each have to decode our own intuitions.
I believe that’s one reason why many have decided that there’s an extra sense involved.
If you haven’t studied or trained yourself to understand your own unique intuition, it looks like someone is tapped into something you’re not. It looks like they have a sense that you don’t.
